I found a silicone Sesame Street mold at the Dollarstore and thought it would be perfect to use for crayon molds. So, I brought it home, and we were off to the races making new crayons out of our broken crayon bits.
Here's how and what you'll need:
crayons
silicone mold (or some sort of mold that you'll use to pour your melted wax into, like an ice cube tray or something. silicone works well because it's pliable.)
pop cans
a shallow pot
water
cute little helper
Collect all your broken crayons and any other crayons that you want to use
Summon your little helper.
Remove the paper from all your broken crayons and break them up into bits
Fit as many cans as you can into your pot and fill the pot up half way with water. (NOTE: The cans WILL float! Make sure that it's a shallow pot and that the cans don't tip over. Use your imagination. I held mine together with tongs whilst stirring the melting wax with one of their old baby food spoons. :) Us moms are crafty like that.)
Start to boil the water.
First batch done, now onto the second.
It takes less than a minute to melt, and once it has, remove the cans (one at a time with the tongs that you were using to hold them from tipping over ;) and pour the wax into your mold.
Tap it on the counter (gently!) a few times to get any air bubbles out
Put it in the fridge to let it harden
10 minutes later, summon your little helper back to remove your new purdy crayons
Take them to your art table....
Colour like a madman!
what do you think we could use instead of silicone molds, i want to do this but i would rather not go out and buy something
